Her own car kills widow during visit to cemetery

A 76-year-old woman was killed in a Queens cemetery yesterday when
her own idling car rolled into her as she visited her husband's
grave, cops said.

Evanglista Vartholomeou of 150th St. in Briarwood was spotted by an
off-duty transit cop pinned under her 1991 Lincoln Continental at
4:50 p.m. in the Maple Grove Cemetery on Kew Gardens Road.

"She may have left the car running and not realized it," said an
official at the scene.

Cops said the car rolled over and pinned the elderly woman, who was
pronounced dead at the cemetery.

A man who lives at the edge of the cemetery said he saw Vartholomeou
being pulled out from under her car by emergency workers.

The vehicle was about 25 feet from her husband's grave on Memorial
Hill.

Flowers and a note card were left at the grave, said the man, who
declined to give his name.

Cops said her death appeared to be an accident.

 Dateline’s journalistic ethics at question

Dateline’s journalistic ethics at question

I have raised question about the ethics behind Dateline’s “To Catch
A Predator” in an article titled “Dateline does it again” back in
February of 2006
(http://articles.blogstream.com/v1/pid/50606.html#TP)

As I was surfing the Internet I was surprised to see that CBS News
has also taken notice of this. It seams that an article dated
February 7, 2006 (only a week prior to my story running) by Brian
Montopoli, titled “Does "Dateline" Go Too Far "To Catch A Predator?"

After reading this article, it seams that Montopoli had some pretty
good point of views and brought to mind some questions that I didn’t
think of. I felt this article was one worth making note of and also
worth the attention of my readers.

Due to copy right laws involving CBS news, I cannot post the actual
article. But I am providing a link. Please go to the website below,
I am sure that you will find the article worth your time.

A search for the Truth (Part 2)

A search for the Truth (Part 2)

NOTE:
This story may contain some details that may upset some readers.
It you are under 18 or easily upset, please do not read.

Sometimes the journey to seek out truth and justice is a long one.
For one woman in Alabama it has been two years now, and still no
answers.

On March 26, 2004 three boys were gunned down in cold blood while
riding their 4-wheelers. It has been said that they were trespassing
on privet property when the homicide took place. The boys were
Daniel Foster (24 yrs. Old), Jason Barr (25 Yrs. Old) and William
Stephens (19 yrs. Old). It seams that there were also accusations of
drug and alcohol use by the boys at the time of their death.

After reviewing the autopsy reports, I found reason for question.
The blood and urine test on all three came back showing no drugs or
alcohol. The reports proceeded to display how all three were in
prime health when they were shot.

The autopsy reports from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences
showed the cause of death to be as follows:

Daniel: Homicide, gunshot wound of the chest. (Interesting being
that as you read further in the report, you find that there was
more then one gunshot wounds. I guess they figured the other ones
were not an issue)

Jason: Homicide, multiple gunshot wounds. (Notice the word multiple
was not a factor with Daniel)

William: Homicide, multiple gunshot wounds. (Notice again the word
multiple was not a factor with Daniel)

As we get further into the story, we will be bringing out more
details about the reports. For now I would like to bring to your
attention the one accused of the homicide.

It seams that on March 28, 2004 a man named Bernard Wilton Vaughan
was found dead in his truck. Bernard was the owner of the property
where the boys were shot. It was assumed that Bernard was the one
who shot the boys, and declared as fact by the courts at a later
date.

This seams like an open shut case. However not much is as it seams
in today’s world.

After a review of the autopsy report for Bernard, it appears that
his cause of death was suicide. Given the events of a few days
prior, this could be a reasonable conclusion. As I read on in the
report from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, I find that
the cause of death was multiple (there goes that word again) gunshot
wounds to the head. This got my attention. I went on to research
suicides of this nature. Although I found that it is possible to
survive a gunshot wound to the head. Given the nature of the wounds
it is very unlikely that anyone could have not only survived the
first wound, but also had the ability to shoot themselves a second
time.

Reading on with the report I found that Bernard also had traces of
medication in his system that is used as anti-depressants. Anyone
with experience dealing with someone on anti-depressants knows that
they can cause mood swings, but do not (in most cases) stop you from
feeling pain, especially what would be caused by a gunshot wound.

I also reviewed the forensic report on Bernard’s truck. Although
there were traces of blood in the truck, none matched the boys
listed above. There are other facts involving Bernard as well as his
truck that will become relevant later in the story.

The questions raised with this information are as follows:
Was Bernard the one who really shot the boys?
If so, was his death really a suicide, or was it a cover up for
something else?
If not, who really shot the boys and what are the facts surrounding
Bernard?
And if not, was Bernard a victim just like the boys?

The Attorney General for the state of Alabama seams to think there
the courts were right in their conclusion on the case. (This will be
made more relevant later through a written reply that the attorney
sent to one of the boys mothers request to look into this matter).

What we are looking for through this story is for the state of
Alabama to take account for the lack of investigation into the
homicides, the facts to be reviewed, a proper investigation take
place and anyone who is guilty of wrong doing (be it in the actual
homicides or the investigation) be made to answer for their actions.

The families have a right to see justice take place and it is the
only way for them to allow the memories of these three boys to lay
at rest.

There will surely be an attempt to push off any efforts made on our
part to put this matter to rest just as the media was pushed aside
when the case first took place.

You can read what The Anniston Star had to say on the case back on
12-16-2004 by visiting
http://www.jaxnews.com/news/2004/as-state-1216-0-4l15w0624.htm

Now, through watching shows like Law and Order, CSI, etc. we all
know that time has limited effect on the authorities finding out the
facts. And the myth that a dead man can’t tell a story is just that,
a myth. Unlike shows like CSI, this is a real life situation with no
actors, props or lighting crews. By following along each week and
posting your comments, you can help us to take the proper steps as
we seek justice. And unlike a TV show, your input will have a direct
impact on what results we get.

The Weekly News is a free service; we do not make a profit from
commercials and advertisements like the TV shows. It would be very
easy for us to not take on a story like this. But we all need to do
the right thing sometimes. We are doing our part here, are you
willing to do yours?

This is your chance to step away from that TV, stop watching what
horrors have been forced on the lives of others and be part of the
solution for this one mother that wants to put her sons memories to
rest.

(other) Should police be able to make unauthorized stops?

SHOULD POLICE BE ABLE TO MAKE UNAUTHORIZED STOPS?

A trucker, and his wife in Shafer Minnesota, took it upon himself to
memorialize the people who died in the 9/11 tragedy. John Holgren
and his wife Amy, have taken out a loan, with their own money, and
had his rig painted, with all the names of the victims of 9-11. The
memorial contains ALL the names of people who lost their lives,
including those of the twin towers, and the passengers and crew, of
all 3 planes. Mr. and Mrs. Holgren call this patriotic and loving
memorial, "The Rolling Memorial".

Now, here is the problem. The couple is stopped many times by
police, to just take pictures of the rig. Is this correct? Should
law enforcement be able to make a trucker, who has done nothing,
wrong, stop his vehicle, for them to take pictures? It's your call;
I would like your opinion. Do you feel it is a tribute to the
trucker and his wife to be stopped by police, or do you feel the
stops are an abuse of authority?

I might add, Mr. and Mrs. Holgren, have hit a rocky financial road,
and have set up a website to try to avoid, their precious truck from
getting repossessed. If you would like to help, you may contact
them at, www.rollingmemorial.com

My personal opinion is, if the police are this interested in the
truck, why can't they help him keep it from being repossessed, by
having a charity donation, instead of abusing their authority, and
possibly endangering this couples life. I do not feel it is right
to stop this citizen, only to gain a picture. It could endanger
this couple's lives, or at the very least, not allow them to make
their living, which of course is long haul trucking.

 Immigrants take a stand

Immigrants take a stand

It is planed for immigrants throughout the United States to make a
stand today by walking out of their jobs and schools. But is this
going to help or do more harm for them?

One of the main arguments about making the immigrants citizens is
that they are taking our jobs. This has been argued from both
angels. On one side, said how they are doing the jobs that Americans
will not take. On the other side, said that people need the jobs and
they are not available due to immigrants and it is lowering the
wages that employers are willing to pay.

What are the facts? If you remove all the media hype and the
political bull ----, one fact main fact remains. America is a
country based on supply and demand.

If your local contractor or store owner can not get an immigrant to
do the work of two men for less then the cost of one, they will be
forced to pay adequate salaries to Americans in order to fill the
jobs.

Will this have an effect on prices, yes it will. By having to pay
more for labor, stores and services will have to charge a little
more. But it is a price worth paying. Americans will be able to
afford the prices if they can work. Those that are not willing to
take the lower level jobs will be forced to take the work as well in
order to afford the difference in the cost of things.

Another thing to consider is that in today’s job market, if you do
not have a collage degree, you are not likely to find a quality job.
With the cost of collages going higher and higher, less people will
be able to afford to get that degree. And people with degrees are
being forced to take remedial jobs in some cases. Where does that
leave them? By opening up more jobs to them, it will give them a
chance to have a fulfilling life and not live off systems like
welfare and unemployment.

If you question this point of view, here is a way that you can prove
it to be fact.
Go to any online job service or application. Fill out the needed
forms using the information below and see for yourself what (if any)
jobs you are offered.

Information recommended to use:
Race: Caucasian
Age: 35 or older
Education: High school or less
Experience: Keep this limited to get a realistic response
(Optional) If the application asks if you have ever been convicted
of a felony, place a minor felony in here that is not job related
and date it back ten years or so. It will remove you from a lot
more opportunities, and the fact is that there are a lot of people
that did something wrong in their lives and are not bad people.

Anyone that truly feels that my views are not truly reflecting the
jobs of today and their availability to Americans, please apply for
one or more job(s) using the above information and post your results
here for everyone to see.
