 Where does it end?

Where does it end?

About a week ago I received a very disturbing e-mail, or should I say someone forwarded a public plea for help to me. I contacted the parties involved with the situation and was pleased to hear that they have already been offered the assistance they were in search of. I say pleased cause I feel that the situation should have received many offers to assist and knowing I was not the only one showed that there are people out there willing to do the right thing.

My question of “where does it end?” stems from the fact that our government has recently invaded our privacy with phone taps and e-mail monitoring, lied to us about reason for war, attacked medical assistance for the elderly and now coming across something like his, where does it end? The answer is with us. Stand up for what is right. Review all facts and don’t just react on what you are told. Make a difference. Every one person that takes these steps brings us one person closer to being what America was meant to be, a free country with respect for the law and eachother. And that is where is ends.

Even though the situation is being handled, I thought I should share the story with you. Before doing so I would like to make note that I have no reason to question the facts contained within, however being that I am not doing the article, I did not verify them either. So you are getting them as they were presented to me.

Here is a copy of part of the actual e-mail; some information has been removed for privacy reasons. Note that some might find it disturbing. So if you are easily bothered, please do not read.
**********************************************************************
Sir/Ma'am,
I am currently in Germany having just returned from my second tour in Iraq due to a family emergency.

My daughter was molested when I was in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom One (2003 - 2004). She was only eight years old at the time; she is now ten. We felt it best to seek counseling for her in order to help her deal with the effects of the abuse.

I deployed to Iraq once again on January 9, 2006. But approximately three months prior to my deployment my daughter began experiencing extreme anxiety, followed by severe weight loss (she lost give or take 10 lbs). She became withdrawn, refused to eat, and showed a multitude of other adverse effects. We took her to see several doctors but they could not tell us the causes of her apparent illness. Our once bright morning sun appeared to be slowly dying.

My wife and I believed that our daughter was losing the weight and experiencing the anxiety because she equated my deployment with what happened to her the last time that I left. If only our problems were so simple.

You see, our daughter had been seeing a therapist for approximately a year. But rather than getting better under his care, she became worse. Without getting into extreme and unnecessary details here, for it will fill up pages, my daughter told my wife that her doctor had been abusing her for sometime.
Let me just list a few of the details that our ten year old daughter shared with us:
1. On numerous occasions the doctor got naked. He also made our 10 year old get naked.
2. He poked and slapped her several times with objects that he kept in his office (in a hidden shelf) if she didn't obey him. He additionally fondled her, kissed her, and made her touch his genitals.
3. The doctor told our daughter that I was leaving for Iraq because her Mom and Dad were getting a divorce. He also told her that if she ever told anyone what they did behind closed doors that he would make sure that I would get killed in Iraq.
4. He told our daughter that if she she told, he would sneak into our home and rape and kill her mom, rape and kill her 12 year old sister, and send her 14 year old brother to a home.
This "therapist" did and said numerous other things which I will not share right now. What I can tell you is that after reporting this to "the authorities," the perp is (from I was last told) still working at the Heidelberg Army Hospital.

In fact, we were told by a hospital worker just recently that the hospital thinks the world of this individual and back him in spite of our allegations. This could explain why my family and I are being stonewalled, and why perhaps no one has bothered to contact us to follow-up on our daughter's health. In other words, we feel that they are "circling the wagons" to protect their own behinds but in the process have totally forgotten about my daughter. The hospital administration refuses to call or e-mail us. When we call them they refuse to come to the phone. In short, I've received better treatment during and after a visit to the veterinarian for our dog.
Most law enforcement professionals believe that the average pedophile molests approximately 150 children before they are caught. It is therefore outrageous that the Heidelberg Army Hospital chain of command has allowed this animal to continue seeing patients. I am concerned for other children, but I am also concerned that he may be influencing and tampering with possible witnesses (i.e., kids that he may have already molested).

I am also writing to express several concerns about the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) agent currently working on my case. I can provide details later, but in my opinion he has made some very critical errors during the course of the investigation. The Polizei (German Police) seem to think so as well.

I am concerned that my daughter's molestation is not being investigated professionally and with the proper degree of skill and attention to detail required. From what I have seen thus far, my concerns are justified.

Here's an example of the lack of professionalism that I have encountered: The Heidelberg CID office had a Neanderthal named Mr. Cadarouse question my daughter. She was reluctant to speak to a total stranger and answer his (very personal, painful, and private) questions, so he yelled, "WHY DON'T YOU WANT TO TALK TO ME?" Does this sound like an experienced professional? It doesn't to me. Well, his exceptional attempt to get critical details from my daughter didn't work. She in fact closed-up even more.

Finally, but certainly not least, I have been denied assistance by military attorneys. I was told by JAG (Judge Advocate General) that since I have a complaint against a government employee, I cannot use their services. In other words, the child molester gets free government legal assistance, but the victim has to go shop for an attorney on the economy. Keep in mind that I am an American soldier serving in a foreign country (Germany) and have to hire a German attorney.

I never understood the Army's campaign slogan, "An Army of One," until my daughter was molested and until I began seeking justice for her. Now I completely understand.

My command's chief concern during this ordeal has been my return to Iraq, and has given minute support..."Wow, we feel for you" is the standard party line. As far as the rest of the military here in Germany is concerned...well, think of the Army's recruiting slogan.
Finally, I have pleaded with my command to allow me to remain in Germany until my children are done with school in June. At that time I will return my family to the states where they can be cared for and protected by a loving family. Only after I have ensured my family's safety, and have spent sometime in therapy with my daughter to repair her fragile mental and physical state, will I return to Iraq to complete my tour. I am not asking to be released from my obligations in Iraq, but only for my return to be delayed.

I have never asked anything of this order to the service that I have given 19 1/2 years of my life to. Again, all that I am requesting is that I be allowed to remain in Germany so that I can guarantee my family's safety and until they (particularly my ten year old) is somewhat stable.

I am a currently a member of MNCI (Multi National Corps Iraq) currently operating in Iraq. This is my second tour to that country.

What You Don’t Know About Diabetes May Kill You

In the past few years, cases of diabetes have skyrocketed to a staggering 16 million. One of the biggest problems that has been realized by the nation's doctors is that Americans know shockingly little about the disease or the importance of early detection.

A lot of these cases, actually could have been prevented. Dr. Curtis Harris, an Okalahoma physician, says "the vast majority of people living with the disease have type II". A disease that is often an overlooked killer. He went on to say "in fact if you look worldwide, the major killer of adults is diabetes and cardiovascular disease. They go hand in hand."

There are two types of diabetes, type one diabetes and type two diabetes.
People with type I diabetes generally have a total lack of insulin, while people with type II diabetes generally have too little insulin or can not use insulin effectively. Without insulin, the body can't absorb sugar, or glucose, which cells need to produce energy.

How are the two types of diabetes different? Type II diabetes usually starts in young adulthood, while type I diabetes is usually detected much earlier.

With type II diabetes, no episodes of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar level unless taking insulin or other diabetes medications cannot be prevented. In fact it can be prevented or delayed by living with a healthy lifestyle including maintaining a healthy body weight, eating sensibly, and exercising regularly.
How are they alike? Both types of diabetes greatly increase a person's risks of a range of serious complications. Although monitoring and management can usually prevent most complications. Diabetes remains the leading cause of blindness and kidney failure. It also continues to be a critical risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and foot or leg amputations.

Here are some more facts about diabetes that you should know:
1. Eight out of ten people living with diabetes are overweight.
2. Your chance of developing diabetes is higher if you have a close relative, such as a parent or sibling with diabetes
3. For reasons not yet clear, Blacks, Hispanics, and American Indians have high rates of diabetes.
4. The less physically you are, the greater the risk of developing diabetes.

(other) Credit Card Bills – Read Them Carefully

Credit Card Bills – Read Them Carefully

Many people fail to read the fine print when applying for credit cards. Even after they are approved, many people also fail to carefully read their statements. This could lead to disaster, as many credit card companies put clauses in the contracts which allow them to raise your interest rate for many different reasons. The fine print on a credit card document can be hard to read and tedious, and it is no accident that it was designed this way. Credit card companies make billions off the ignorance of their customers.

Back To School!

Even though the language used on credit card documents is complex, it is important that you understand it. It is something you agree to, and you don't want to agree to something you don't understand. Most credit card companies don't have your best interests in mind, and this is why it is important to protect yourself. Most people are under the false assumption that credit card companies will only raise interest rates when you are late making your payments. Unfortunately, this is far from the truth.

Who Needs More Credit Card Debt?

With the average American family owing $10,000 in credit card debt, the industry is one of the most profitable in the world. As the minimum monthly payments are increased, this will insure that the credit card industry earns billions of dollars each year. The new bankruptcy law making it harder for people to get out of financial trouble will insure that the losses suffered by the credit card companies will be greatly reduced.

Save Your Credit Report

Many credit card companies will look at your credit report for any negative information. If they find it the interest rate on your credit card will be increased, often without your notification. Unless you read your bill carefully, you will probably not notice. Negative things on your credit report could be far more than just late payments. Bankruptcy or other problems may also be used as a pretext to increase the interest rate on your credit card. Your interest rate could be raised for something as frivolous as having too many accounts, or having too high of a balance.

This is unfair to the customer. Your interest rate shouldn't be raised for something that has nothing to do with your credit card. If you find yourself in this situation, the first thing you want to do is call your credit card company and demand that the interest rate be lowered. If you are making your payments on time, the company has no reason not to lower it. If they refuse you should switch to another company. The market is highly competitive, and you shouldn't have to stick with a company which raises the interest rate for any reason.

Keep Your Credit Report Up to Date

You should also check your credit report on a regular basis. It may have errors on it which can cause your interest rate to increase. It is also important to carefully read your credit card statement each month. If you see something which looks strange, immediatley call your credit card company to ask about it. When you apply for a credit card, read the contract carefully and ask about the interest rate and what causes it to increase.

Credit card companies make large amounts of money from people who don't read their bills or contracts. It is your responsibility to make sure the information on your bill is accurate and correct. Credit card companies are prone to making mistakes, and will put clauses in their agreements which allows them to earn more money from their customers. It is important to check your information carefully to make sure there are no errors.

(other) How Much Should You Spend To Get Your Home Ready To Sell?

How Much Should You Spend To Get Your Home Ready To Sell?

When you get ready to sell your home, it's important to make it sparkle, especially when compared to your neighbors' houses. Every real estate agent knows that well-polished houses not only sell faster, but they also sell for higher prices.

When planning the "spruce up" strategy for your home, you'll first want to consider how much you want to spend, and then how much of that money to allocate to the outside and the inside in order to help sell your home the most quickly and for the best price.

How much should you spend? The answer is simple: as little as possible. The idea is to make your home shine by addressing areas that will make a good impression on buyers, without spending money you won't be able to recoup at sale time. Generally, that means a serious clean-up, inside and out. Then, depending upon your budget, you can make relatively inexpensive (but often dramatic) upgrades, such as paint, new knobs for kitchen cabinets, or new towel racks in the bathroom.

On the outside, make sure your home looks nice from the street, since that's the first impression every buyer will have. Keep the lawn mowed and the sidewalks edged. That's important, and doesn't cost anything extra, since you'd be doing that whether your home was for sale or not. Plant a few annual flowers along the walkway and around the house. They'll add a touch of hominess and color, and make a good impression on buyers.

Keep flower gardens and shrubbery well-maintained, and make sure the front door is nicely painted and opens easily without creaking. If the paint is peeling on the outside of your home, especially the windows and doors, it's time to repaint with a color that attracts your buyer's profile.

If there are shingles missing, they should be replaced, but don't put on a new roof unless it's absolutely necessary; you'll rarely recoup such a major expense. If the driveway is covered with oil stains, there are some good products that can remove them without a great deal of cost.

Inside, go through each room, doing a thorough cleaning and removing clutter. Have a friend walk through with you, telling you what catches their eye, because you may have grown accustomed to things that will create a negative impression in the minds of prospective buyers. If rooms need paint, repaint them, using colors that you know your buyers will love.

Pay special attention to bathrooms and the kitchen. If the floor looks old and worn in the kitchen, new linoleum tiles are easy to install and can instantly give old kitchens new sparkle. Repair or replace any dripping faucets--another relatively inexpensive repair that can pay big dividends.

You don't have to spend a lot of money to get your home ready to sell, but you do want to make it as attractive as you can (without spending a lot) if you want to sell it quickly--and at the highest possible price.

(other) Google Versus Kanosis. The Race For The Next Phase Of The Internet.

Google Versus Kanosis. The Race For The Next Phase Of The Internet.

What is the greatest need for today’s internet web surfer? Security!
This is the area of internet services that is most likely to produce
the next super giant of the internet world.

According to the SAN FRANCISCO March 8, 2006 AP story By MICHAEL
LIEDTKE AP Business Writer. Google was quick to try to cover up an
inadvertent leak about a project that it is working on called
Gdrive. In this leaked internal memo, you can hear the echoes of the
competition to the “Coil” by Kanosis, which is scheduled for a full
launch on May 1, of this year.

The service that will be provided by the “Coil” of Kanosis and “most
likely” by the Gdrive of Google will make it possible for the
subscriber to keep all of his or her data at a “virtual lock box” so
that they can be access from any internet connection by the user. It
does not take a lot of imagination to figure out why Google and
possibly other internet giants would want to be secretive about
their work on developing such a service. They appear to have been
caught with “their pants down” by a total newcomer on the internet
scene. To admit that they are working on a project for such a new
service would be equal to lending enormous credibility to the notion
that such a service is worth being explored by the internet user.

Unfortunately for them they are the latecomers to this party.

Kanosis officials claim that their nearest competitor is two years
from completing a viable software platform to compete with
their “Coil”.

The question that one should now be asking is this. How can a Google
or any other present giant of the internet fall so far behind to a
total newcomer? And this in a marketing niche that should have been
so obvious to everybody, especially those who are in control of most
of the activities of the internet? The answer is simple and is as
old as man doing business. Somebody has a brilliant idea. He sees
some obvious need and he moves to develop the product that will fill
it. Soon he dominates the marketplace and grows to a huge operation.
Big success always contains within itself the seed of becoming
outdated. The big corporation has too many bosses, it becomes
inflexible and unresponsive to the needs of its own customers. The
new kid on the block sees the same needs but being small and agile
he can move in new and innovative ways. He now becomes the giant as
his products fill the new need, only to repeat the same process all
over again. It is up to us as perceptive individuals to discern
these cycles of corporate development and hopefully profit from them
by positioning ourselves on the side of a winner. Is Kanosis a
winner? My bet would be yes. Even though they are still at pre
launch and subscription is available by private invitation only,
their Alexa rating is already in the 20,000 range. This leak by
google only serves to strengthen my impression that the smart money
is on Kanosis.
